Over the past two decades, a growing number of elite, amateur, and professional athletes have acknowledged working with a sport psychology consultant. In fact, the U.S. Olympic Committee currently employs a number of full-time sport psychologists to work with Team USA, endorsing the importance of mental preparation in performance.  If you are wondering how mental performance coaching can help to improve your performance, simply ask yourself the questions below:

  • Are you looking for a competitive edge?
  • Do you perform better in training than on race day?
  • Do you lack confidence during training, during a particular event, or on race day?
  • Do you have trouble staying focused during long training sessions or a race?
  • Do you struggle to begin or continue a training program?
  • Have you lost confidence or motivation after an injury?
  • Are you looking for a way to improve your multisport experience?

If you answered, “yes,” to any of the above questions, working with Team MPI’s mental performance coach can help you elevate your performance to the next level!

While some athletes seek the assistance of a mental training coach because they want to overcome a limitation or barrier to performance, many others utilize mental training to maximize their athletic potential and gain an edge on the competition.  Some of the common psychological skills developed during mental skills training include the following:

  • Anxiety or Energy Management
  • Attention and Concentration Control (Focusing)
  • Communication
  • Goal Setting
  • Imagery, Visualization, and Mental Practice
  • Self-Talk
  • Time Management/Organization
