Coach Adam's Olympic Rant

It’s July 2024, which means the Olympics are nearly here. I love the Olympics, so instead of writing an article on something useful, I can write about my thoughts on the Paris Olympics.

First off, here are the athletes I’m excited to watch (in no particular order):

Sha’Carri Richardson

The sprints are arguably the most exciting events in the Olympics, and Sha’Carri is one of the most exciting sprinters the USA has had in a while. I mean no disrespect to Marion Jones and Alison Felix, but Sha’Carri has a little more of the Usain Bolt swagger I enjoy watching.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce

Another sprinter. I have been a fan of Shelly-Ann ever since I saw an interview where she told a story about her mother threatening to cut off a man’s “manhood.” She has also had an amazingly consistent career and is one of the oldest competitors in the games.

Eliud Kipchoge

Even sneakerheads know who Kipchoge is. He is the reason for the Nike Alphafly and the only person to run the marathon in under two hours (unofficially).

Chase Jackson

Nobody really cares about the throwers. Chase is a two-time World Champion and should be exciting to watch in the Shut Put.

Mathieu van der Poel

Mathieu is the most dominant cyclist in the world right now. He is the current World Champion and destroyed the Classics this season. I am excited to see how he approaches the Olympic road race.

Simone Biles

You probably know who she is. She broke my heart in Tokyo, but I am ready to cheer for her again. She is by far the most iconic athlete in the world.

Men’s Indoor Volleyball

What? I like watching it. They can jump high and slap the ball hard.

Now, a rant about the Olympics.

Once again, I love the Olympics. However, a few changes could make them better (for me).

  1. Break Dancing will be in the 2028 Games, but we should have them now. Breakin’ 2 Electric Bugaloo is one of my very favorite movies.

  2. Switch up the cycling event. The Road Race and XC MTB are the most boring cycling events. How about we add Radball and XCE to the Games?

  3. What about adding a dog show? I don’t like dog shows, but my wife does, and there always seems to be one on Fox Sports.

  4. Why not add a unique local event? For example, in Paris, make the Sprinters race up the Rue Foyatier.
