While there are many reasons to race close to home, there are just as many reasons to travel to races.
If you choose to travel and race, here are 5 things to consider to help you stay organized and prepared so you can have a successful race and trip.
One of the very first articles Coach MarkT ever published with USA Triathlon dealt with the life-work balance and what we say no to versus what we say yes to. The line between yes and no is an extremely thin line for driven people. And what about those 2020 vows to slow down more? Coach MarkT shares his wisdom and personal experience in this updated blog.

Team MPI Partner Spotlight: Blue70 Thermal
Don't let cold winter temps keep you from your open water swim sessions!
The Thermal Reaction is a variation of the Blue70 Reaction wetsuit, outfitted for colder temperatures with a thermal liner called Zirconium. This unique jersey absorbs less water, offers excellent flexibility and additional protection from the elements.
Keep swimming even when the air and water temps get cold. This wetsuit is a great investment and addition to your endurance tools arsenal. (And if you're planning to race the inaugural IRONMAN Alaska in 2022 this might be a worthy investment.)
Reactive Stretch Technology (RST): thinner neoprene around the back and shoulders produce great mobility and reach from the shoulders, reducing fatigue
S-Flex Side Panels: improve the ease of getting into the suit and promote better body position while swimming without sacrificing buoyancy
Warm and Flexible: mid-weight Zirconium jersey enhances warmth by absorbing less water and protecting against heat loss than standard wetsuit jersey
S-Grip Forearm Panels: textured forearm panels provide a better feel for the water and add grip in the propulsion phase of your stroke
Quick Exit Legs: thinner leg panels improve transition times, making it easy to get out of the suit after your swim. Reinforced seam taping allows you to cut the legs to your desired length

Team MPI Spotlight: Other Endurance Events
Maybe your idea of endurance sports is a little unconventional--we've still got you!
Do you dance to a different beat? Or maybe you've got bored with traditional mainstream endurance sports and long for something new and unknown? Or maybe you live in an area where winter is the longest season of the year and you'd much rather be on a pair of "sticks"?
We love endurance sports. Period. We're students of it, and we've got a thirst for anything that challenges the body and the mind...oh, and is flat-out FUN!
Check out a few sports and endurance challenges we've been coaching recently:
- Spartan Races
- Obstacle Racing
- Firefighter academy prep
If your sport isn't listed, don't let that stop you. Find a Team MPI Coach and invite them to join your Team. We will use all our decades of experience and knowledge to get you to that finish line - whatever it may look like!
