How To Use VR Races Effectively
You’ve seen your friends jump into doing the IMVRs. Now you’re starting to think about jumping into the VR racing yourself.
You’re a smart athlete and recognize that racing every weekend or even most weekends can be a bad idea. Even if you are spreading out the legs across the long weekend period, going hard in those three workouts multiple weekends in a row can do damage. So what’s a middle of the pack, age-group athlete to do?
Here are some tips on how to effectively use IMVR races as part of your training!
As an athlete myself, there always seems to be one thing or another that my coach harps on me to improve…. Nutrition… Sleep… Consistency… Mobility…. Core…. The list goes on!!
But as a coach, I find that one of the things I am probably driving my athletes crazy over is CADENCE!
Here’s the rundown on why cadence is so important in both cycling and running.
Coach Maria's Monday Minute
This week on Maria's Monday Minute: The Mileage and Elevation Challenges
COVID-19 has brought about a lot of virtual challenges – marvelously creative running challenges, and there’s one for everyone. From a race across Tennessee to 4x4x48 (a la David Goggins). Maybe you’ve already participated in one or maybe you’re thinking about one.
Let’s take the two types of virtual running events I’m hearing the most about this summer and discuss how to handle them.

Coach Laura's Coach Tip Tuesday
This week on Coach Tip Tuesday: "It's Only Heavy If You Pick It Up"
Truly, there is a lot of fear and anxiety going around out there. Some people talk about it more than others do, but most folks have experienced emotions that have caused them to feel at least nervous since the pandemic started. The most common theme I’ve heard from folks is that they are anxious over the uncertainty about the future. Anecdotally, I think that anxiety over the future definitely seems to be at an all-time high, or at the very least, the highest it’s ever been in my lifetime.
I recently heard a story that I’d like to share with all of you...

Athlete Spotlight: Welcome Andrew Maier!
Hello Team MPI! My name is Andrew Maier and I am a true Wisconsinite from just outside Madison, WI. I recently graduated from West Point and now I'm a 2nd lieutenant in the Army branch. Currently, at Fort Benning, GA, and destined to post to Fort Stewart, GA after.
At West Point, I dedicated most of my time to lifting and the West Point Judo Team. I was also on the West Point powerlifting team and a proud accomplishment of mine is becoming a member of the esteemed 1000 lb club!
Outside of the Army and throwing things around, I love to play golf, fish, and do just about anything outdoors.
I am a little nervous to tackle a new challenge that has never come as naturally to me as lifting, but I am excited to have MPI and Maria Netherland as my coach!
Welcome to the Team MPI family, Andrew! Congrats on your recent graduation and thank you for your service. We can't wait to cheer you on as you accomplish your amazing athletic goals!

Join a virtual group bike workout with Team MPI athletes and coaches!
When: Tuesday, July 14, 2020

1. Follow Coach Kelly Ryan in the Zwift companion app and send her a note so she can add you.
2. Coach Kelly will invite you to the ride and you can "join" the meetup on Zwift
3. While you're spinning, waiting for the group to start, click Menu, and select the workout (this week's workout TBD).
4. You should now be back with the group, waiting for the workout to begin.
The Zwift workout will start at 6:30 pm EDT. The Zoom call will begin at 6 pm. Contact Coach Kelly for the Zoom link to join the event!

Want in on the excitement? Just send Coach Becky an email so she can send you the link to join on Zoom!
