VFS Bike Fit for Athletes
Ride the bike, not fight the bike!
Whether you’re thinking about racing your first Road, Triathlon or MTB race or you’ve been racing for years, a professional and proper bike fit will pay huge dividends to you. Comfort, power, aerodynamics and optimizing muscle groups are the results of a truly professional bike fit.
That's where the VFS (Veritas Fit System) Bike Fit comes in. The philosophy of fitting in the VFS system is Epicurean by nature, meaning that the ultimate goal of the fitter is to assist the rider in finding the most comfortable and efficient position on the bike by lessening fear and lessening pain.
Do you own a road, triathlon or mountain bike? If so, were you properly fit? Or maybe you have a bike but are ready to purchase a new one? What size and what brand should you buy? Certainly walking into any bike shop will afford you an opportunity to receive a plethora of recommendations – most of which probably revolve around what bikes that particular store sells.
But what if you could team up with a professional and together discover your optimal fit coordinates? Could you then convert these measurements and determine which bikes and which sizes fit your optimal riding position? You bet! And once armed with this information, you will then know which brands and what size in those brands fit.
What is a bike fit?
The purpose of a bike fit is to make a person as comfortable and efficient as possible on a bicycle. This is done by taking a few body measurements and then having the person ride. Over the next hour or so, adjustments are made to the bike to make the rider as comfortable and efficient as possible. Comfort comes from the riders subjective input, while efficiency comes from the fitter conducting body movement assessments and taking objective measurements.
Why get a bike fit?
If someone purchases a suit, they typically take it to the tailor so that the suit will fit them well and be comfortable to wear. This analogy can be applied to bikes; if you purchase a bike and intend to ride it, why not make it as comfortable and efficient as possible to ride? Increasing one’s comfort on a bike can greatly enhance one’s ride experience, making bikes that much more fun to ride. Riders can reduce their risk of injury by simultaneously decreasing stress and increasing efficiency on the bike; a bike fit helps ensure that the proper muscles are being utilized for movement while riding.
Who would benefit from a bike fit?
Anyone who rides a bicycle can benefit from a bike fit - from amateur, first-time riders to high-level, competitive athletes. Everyone who rides a bike deserves to be as comfortable as they can be while they are riding.
