Just a Bit Different
If you've lived with someone for any long period of time, you learn how each of us are "just a bit different". Do any of these look familiar?

One of you takes from the left, the other, from the right...

Outside....

Inside....(this is dumb)

Shades UP every day...

Shades down...(why?)

Seemingly nice bowls cluttered...

Ah....much better.
Now, some of you may look at the differences and think, "What's the big deal? There's hardly any difference." However, I'm here to tell you that there are BIG differences! (my preferences hinted at above)
Like, why would someone hang the toilet paper to the "inside" baffles me. And if we actually put in windows, why not "see" the entire outside and brighten the entire inside? Oh, and don't get me going on "junk" bowls, draws, tables...etc.!
Hahahahaha.
So those of us living with someone know all to well that our preferences might be quite different than our housemate's. And that's actually OK. The same differences are found in food, sleep, entertainment, and even workouts.
For example, some athletes love the running track while others throw up in their mouths thinking about it. Some athletes love out-n-backs (as many as you give them) while others will loose their minds with boredom. Some athletes enjoy going longer while others prefer shorter and faster. And some athletes love the gym while others are happy doing body weight exercises in their living room.
The point is: there is no "one way" to summit the mountain of performance.
Each of us has preferences - likes and dislikes - and things that motivate and make us feel good. So if we hate the track, no worries! We can get fast without it. If we disdain weights, we can get stronger with other exercises without them. And if we love the Masters group and hate swimming alone, that will work!
So tell your coach what YOU like and work with them to build a program that keeps you motivated and engaged. There's no "one way".
...I'm hoping Jennifer doesn't read this week's musings....
Gratefully,
Mark
