Continuing on from the them from last week on how much YouTube I watch regularly, this week I'm bringing you a fun clip of Olympian and aging professional swimmer, Cody Miller. I say "aging" with a wink as he's only 32...but for swimming that's starting to get long in the tooth!I've watched Cody on and off for years. His genuine love of swimming and ability to stay upbeat and happy while enduring rigorous training inspires me - he gets me to the pool often!
So I thought I'd share a part of his vlog this week. Here's the setup: Cody is trying to break 20 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle. Since Cody is a breaststroke specialist, this would be a great accomplishment and something he's never done in his two-and-a-half decades of swimming. He tried two months ago and clocked a 20.11, then tried again 15 minutes later and got 20.04! Uhhhg!
Cody trains at Indiana University with other professionals alongside the college team. He's attempting this during a break in a dual meet the college team is racing that day.
I've got you keyed up at 4:17....

So Cody was sick and didn't swim for the 5 days leading up to his self-imposed race. He didn't feel great, but trusted in his training for the past 3+ months. He had his training partners and coaches there with him. I'll leave you with two quotes - one from Cody and one from his coach."Feeling is overrated” - Coach Ray
“Preparation is in the bank. All you have to do is cash out” - Cody Miller
So stick with your training, and when you get to the day of the big event, pull these two quotes back up. ;)
Gratefully,
